Preschool

If your child is age 3–4, this is a hugely important stage for your child’s learning, and it should be really fun too; this is where Wolds Nurseries is the best choice for your child.

What will my child do in the Early Years at Wolds Childcare?

At this stage of their learning, your child will be mainly learning through play-based activities. To get ready for school, life in preschool is slightly more structured; they will be learning about routine and developing early literacy and maths skills.  They will also be learning about the world around them and social etiquette.  The team at Wolds will support you and your child to gain the independence and skills needed for school.  To support their independence, children will begin to learn to do things by themselves with free flow play, exploring, investigating, listening, discussing and being creative – all through play.  Key personnel will plan stimulating and fun activities based on their individual development needs.

Learn, play and get outdoors

Our preschools have direct access to their own outdoor play areas which include a covered area so your child can play outside in all weathers.  Your child will be learning in the outdoors with mucky stuff such as mud, leaves, sticks and learning about animals and wildlife.  Inside, we will play with sand, water and paint.  They will also visit our Woodland Experience Forest School, where they will engage in hands on activities such as making a den to build their independence and confidence.

Exploring the world

With your consent, your child will go on frequent trips to learn more about their community and the environment around them. This might be a nature walk, a trip to the library or a visit to the fire station.

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a curriculum for 3–5-year-old children. This is broken down into three prime aspects and four specific areas of learning. All of the aspects and areas are thoroughly explored and covered at Wolds Childcare.

Prime Aspects of Learning:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication
Physical development

Specific areas:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the world
Expressive arts
